Lorillard Tobacco Company's Youth Smoking
Prevention Program has a policy to respect and protect the privacy
of its users. This privacy policy statement tells you how we may
collect information from you and how we may use it. Using the
Internet should be a fun experience and we want to help make it
so.
The information you provide to us
will never be disclosed to third parties. There may be instances
where we will request personal information, such as your name,
e-mail address and birth date. For example, we may seek your personal
information when you request information about our program, enter
a contest or send one of our customized cards to a friend. We
collect this information only for complying with your requests,
fulfilling prizes and/or tracking/verifying compliance with federal,
state, and local laws.
In the event we do collect your personal
information, we will disclose our intended use at the time such
information is requested, and will provide a means for you to
opt out of receiving communications from us about new information
relating to the youth smoking prevention program.
We may disclose user information
in special cases when we have reason to believe that disclosing
this information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal
action against someone who may be causing injury to or interfering
with (either intentionally or unintentionally) our rights or property,
other users, or anyone else that could be harmed by such activities.
We may also disclose user information when we believe in good
faith that the law requires it.
POLICY FOR
INDIVIDUALS UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE
We encourage parents and guardians to spend time online with their
children and to participate in the activities offered on this
Web site. Participation in our contests or promotions by any guests
under 18 years of age requires written consent by a parent or
legal guardian. All prizes will be awarded to the parent or guardian
of the entrant.
USE OF IP
ADDRESSES
An IP address is a number that's automatically assigned to your
computer whenever you're surfing the Web. Web servers -- the big
computers that "serve up" Web pages -- automatically
identify your computer by its IP address.
We may collect IP addresses for the purposes of system administration,
to report aggregate information to our promotional partners, or
to audit the use of our site. When guests request pages from the
Web site, our servers log the guests' IP addresses. We do not
normally link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable,
which means that a user's session will be logged, but the user
remains anonymous. We can and will use IP addresses to identify
a user when we feel it is necessary to enforce compliance with
our terms of service or to protect our service, site, customers,
or others.
USE OF COOKIES
What are cookies? Cookies are pieces of information that a Web
site transfers to an individual's hard drive for record-keeping
purposes. Cookies make Web-surfing easier for you by saving your
preferences while you're at our site. We never save passwords
or credit card information in cookies. The use of cookies is an
industry standard -- you'll find them at most major Web sites.
By showing how and when guests use
a site, cookies may help us see which areas are popular and which
are not. Many improvements and updates to the site are based on
such data as total number of visitors and pages viewed. This information
is most easily tracked with cookies. We may use the information
from cookies to provide services better tailored to our users
needs.
We have two primary uses for cookies.
First, we may use them to specify unique preferences. This way
you don't have to tell us over and over again about the kinds
of information you want to see. Secondly, we use cookies to track
user trends and patterns. This helps us better understand and
improve areas of the Web site that our users find valuable. While
both of these activities depend on the use of a cookie, visitors
to our Web site always have the option of disabling cookies via
their browser preferences.
Most browsers are initially set up
to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies
or indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some parts of
the Web site will not function properly or may be considerably
slower if you refuse cookies.
LINKS TO OTHER
SITES
We may provide links to other Web sites. We do not have control
over these Web sites, the information collected on these Web sites
or the manner in which such information is used. Please refer
to the privacy policy of each linked Web site to learn how your
personal information will be collected and used by these sites.
We assume no responsibility for the collection and use of your
Personally Identifiable Information disclosed by you to, or gathered
by, any linked Web site.
Please keep in mind that whenever you give out personal information
online that information can be collected and used by people you
don't know. While we strive to protect our users' personal information
and privacy, we cannot guarantee the security of any information
you disclose online and you do so at your own risk. Our policy
does not extend to anything that is inherent in the operation
of the Internet, and therefore beyond our control, and is not
to be applied in any manner contrary to applicable law or governmental
regulation.
PERSONALLY
IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION
Personally Identifiable Information (sometimes "PPI")
is information about you, such as but not limited to your name,
address, city, state, zip code and e-mail address. There may be
instances when we request such information, for example, when
you request information about our program(s) or when your request
requires your personal information (for example, but not limited
to, participation in our programs and/or promotions such as contests,
newsletters, sweepstakes, or sending one of our customized cards
to a child or friend or when you contact us by email). We collect
this information only for complying with your requests, fulfilling
prizes, responding to you, and/or tracking/verifying compliance
with federal and state laws as they are currently and generally
interpreted and enforced. This information may be shared with
third parties who help us create, run, and administer our Web
site and our programs. Before we share the information, however,
those third parties will have to agree to hold and maintain the
information as confidential.
Your Personally Identifiable Information will not be shared with
third parties whose purpose is to market or sell goods or services
to you. We, however, may share aggregate information about our
Web site visitors, for example, with our promotional partners.
We may disclose PII in special cases
when we have reasonable reason to believe that disclosing this
information is necessary to identify, contact or bring legal action
against, someone who may be causing injury to, or interfering
with (either intentionally or unintentionally), our rights or
property, other users, or anyone else that could be harmed by
such activities. We may also disclose user PII when we believe
in good faith that the law requires it for example, but not limited
to, requests from legal authorities, subpoenas and the law requiring
that winners in games of chance promotions be reported to some
states (New York and Florida) or if there is a reasonable belief
that someone is in danger.
